Through screenings of their films, exhibition of related posters and panel discussions, GFF also paid tribute to three renowned filmmakers: Youssef Chahine, marking 10 years since his death; Ingmar Bergman, celebrating the 100th anniversary of his birth; and Federico Fellini, commemorating the 25th anniversary of his death in October 2018.

“The ultimate goal of the process of programming and selecting films for El Gouna Film Festival has been to create a festival experience that enriches both filmmakers and the audience,” said Intishal Al Timimi, festival director; adding, “we are fortunate that our team’s knowledge of international cinema and film professionals enables us to access wide-ranging options.”

“The growth in the number of entries received from the first to the second edition of our festival indicates the success of the programming team in attracting the most important films of the year to have their MENA premiere at GFF among a diverse range of films—from awarded and acclaimed films to new cinematic discoveries. This success places an even greater responsibility on our shoulders to maintain and improve the quality of our selection,” said Amir Ramses, artistic director.
